kitchen basics 101
Designing a kitchen for the first or even second time can be quite daunting. We’ve come up with a checklist to make sure you don’t miss any basics in your kitchen design.
If you’re a first-time renovator or a third-time house flipper, there are some things you should keep in mind when designing a kitchen to make sure you get the best layout and colour choice for your space.
Measure your kitchen with our helpful guide!
measure and check your space
We know that measuring and checking your space is quite obvious, but you’d be surprised how wrong this step can go. We have a detailed guide available that shows you how to measure your kitchen space correctly.
Once you’ve triple checked your kitchen measurements you can move on to the fun part…designing your kitchen!
Working triangle layouts to suit your space.
the working triangle
I know, I know, we constantly talk about the working triangle! The working triangle is one of, if not, the most important factor in your kitchen design. It is the space between your sink, cooktop and fridge, and it determines your level of ease and movement when cooking in the kitchen. The most effective work spaces allow 1200mm between each of these stations to minimise movement and maximise productivity—keep this in mind when you’re in the initial stages of planning your kitchen.
Cabinet choices are key!
cabinet choices
Now it’s time for cabinet choices, and this comes down to your preferred layout. Be practical in your design and make sure you maximise storage space in this step. If you have tight corners in your kitchen, our corner and blind corner cabinets will maximise space ensuring no gap is left unfilled. If you have tall ceilings, double stack your cabinets to gain that extra layer of storage space. Select drawers if you love organisation and want to keep everything its place. If you have an odd space that cannot be filled by a modular cabinet, use our cut to measure offer, where we can modify the widths of selected cabinets to suit your specific measurements. At this stage of your kitchen planning, the opportunities are endless.
Add colour with our paint your own doors range.
colour
Choosing the right colour/colours in your kitchen can seem like a never-ending battle—one minute you want a bold green the next minute you want a classic white. The best advice we can give you is to match your kitchen colours to your personality. The kitchen lies at the heart of your home, and it really sets the tone for the rest of your space so don’t be afraid to show a glimpse of your personality here.
We have a huge range of door and panel colours to get you started and if you can’t find a colour that suits your style we've got a solution for that as well with our paint your own doors. We have a cheeky range of raw board doors that act as the perfect canvas for any colour of your choice, giving you the freedom to be as creative as you like. And we don’t just stop at doors and panels, we also have an array of benchtops to tie your whole kitchen design together.
Kaboodle door profiles.
style
Once you’ve selected a door colour you can then pick a door profile. Country, modern, alpine and heritage, are the kaboodle profiles that will set the style of your kitchen. While our range of doors and panels is extensive, it is important to keep in mind that not all kaboodle colours are available in all four profiles. If the profile you love is not available in your desired colour, our paint your own doors range will be a perfect fit.
