kaboodle x Making Home | kitchen

Join us, as Nikki and Liz from Making Home reveal how they achieved a stunning modern classic farmhouse kitchen and butler’s pantry that’s welcoming, hardworking and huge on wow factor.

The Making Home team have recently renovated one family’s home to transform it into a Modern Classic Farmhouse style oasis, and they’ve taken us along for the ride in the Making Home Renovation Series.

In this episode, Nikki and Liz from the Making Home team take us on a tour of the heart of the home – the kitchen!

They wanted to step away from the traditional white kitchen and craft a welcoming kitchen with wow factor while sticking to a tight budget.

Nikki says:

“We wanted to build a kitchen that would service a BIG family with multiple work spaces, gallons of storage, room to gather and durable finishes. We also really wanted to create a space that makes a statement.”

kitchen cabinetry

This kitchen embraces a moody colour scheme and incorporate the perfect hint of rustic charm with a base palette of licorice twist doors and panels. Licorice twist showcases a texture just like natural timber. It’s dark and sophisticated intensity was the perfect choice to create that warm and welcoming atmosphere that is to the classic farmhouse style.

To ensure this family kitchen was as functional as it is beautiful, they included pull-out bins for cleverly concealed waste storage, and corner cabinet wireware to maximise storage potential and increase accessibility.

By popping on their DIY hats, Nikki and Liz were also able to achieve bespoke features with kaboodle, like this platter stacker above the oven – the entertainer’s kitchen dream! They achieved this by ordering multi-purpose panels cut to size using our customisation service, in the same licorice twist finish and securing them into an open self.

To help bring this kitchen design to life, Nikki used our online 3D kaboodle planner to visualise kaboodle products in her space. You can also book a consultation if you’d like a Bunnings Kitchen Design Expert to help bring your vision together.

benchtop & splashback

Nikki opted for a natural marble benchtop and splashback to provide the perfect contrast between our black licorise twist doors and panels. You’ll definitely want to check out our selection of affordable stone-look benchtops for the ultimate designer look for less. Try marbellino, santolina, oyster swirl, biancoccino for a similar look.

In the butler’s pantry, our kaboodle american oak benchtop was used to inject more of that warm farmhouse charm.

American oak is a beautiful hardwood, appreciated for its stunning crown cut grain, stability and versatility in application. It is coarse textured and distinctive in appearance and it can be easily painted or stained to suit many different kitchen designs and most colour tones, from whites through to blacks.

The team also got their installers to cut down excess american oak benchtop into shelves to utilise in their pantry!
