Come behind the scenes of our latest inspiration gallery, nordic charm, as we speak to homeowner, Carmel, about how she transformed the heart of her home into a chic, airy space with kaboodle.

Carmel’s Prahran home in East Melbourne was in desperate need of attention, so she decided to revamp the space with a combination of warm and cool tones, additional storage and lots of texture.

Before beginning the demolition, the kitchen was designed on the kaboodle 3D planner to ensure the usable space was maximised. With a goal of creating a free-flowing area that is great for entertaining, this timeless nordic style design was created with a large kitchen island and floor to ceiling cabinetry.

Once Carmel received her cabinetry, installation began. The assembly took a matter of days and the outcome was flawless. Carmel went with kaboodle doors and panels in wild garlic and ghost ash, and paired these with coconutty benchtops and matt black cali handles for an elegant touch. To add an extra layer of luxury, all cabinetry also features soft-close hinges and drawer runners.

“I love the timber look in modern kitchen designs and I needed a colour that would work well with my décor paint colour (green and white). Ghost ash provided that. The wild garlic and coconutty benchtop break up the timber and lighten up the small kitchen/living room space.” Says Carmel.

When it comes to styling, Carmel found the Nordic style to be delightfully versatile and easily accessorised. Add a burst of coloured florals for a warm country feel or sprinkle neutral décor throughout for a more Scandi appeal. 

With the simple change of one room in the home, Carmel now has a bright, open plan kaboodle kitchen where every evening is enjoyed. Updating the kitchen allowed Carmel to inject some personality and charm into a space she uses every day, and truly is the heart of her home!
