Come behind the scenes of our latest inspiration gallery, midnight moment as we speak to homeowner Ben about how he transformed his kitchen and laundry with kaboodle.
First homeowner Ben recently renovated his Melbourne kitchen and laundry with kaboodle, transforming a tired and dysfunctional space into a modern and quietly sophisticated haven with lots of storage.
The layout of Ben’s original laundry changed to accommodate his lifestyle, he wanted to maximise the usable space and a European laundry was the solution for this.
"The laundry is not a priority for me and I think it’s a space that could be put to better use in a small unit. The unit had a dining room as well as a meals room…which didn’t make sense to me. I turned the dining room into a third bedroom and used the old laundry room to extend the meals area.
The kitchen was extremely outdated with a chase. I wanted it open it up by making it “L" shaped and extend it to an area where I removed a wall,” says Ben.
Ben went with a strong yet timeless colour palette, opting for deep navy poppy seed cabinetry and calcutta grey benchtops to add a sense of luxe to the space. He then chose our matt black plaza discrete handles to keep the space streamlined and modern. He continued this colour theme through to the laundry as well.
“I thought the poppy seed colour would suit my spotted gum flooring. Even though it is a bold colour, it is also quite neutral. The calcutta grey benchtop give me the stone look at a portion of the price,” says Ben.
Ben measured his space and then designed both the kitchen and laundry himself in the 3D kaboodle planner to get a sense of how the space would look.
“The 3D planner is tricky to use at the beginning but once you know what you are doing it’s great. Very good to put the vision in your mind to something you can see. Could potentially stop you from doing something which will not work before it’s too late. Need to make sure you have your dims correct!”
during kitchen renovation
Ben had past experience assembling kaboodle product with family and friends so he was familiar with the product and the assembly process.
“I have assembled the product many times previously so I found it quite straight forward but I would like to point out that it’s not as easy as it may seem. Especially if it’s an older house where the floors and walls are not straight or square. You need to take your time and use laser levels everywhere or else you’ll have the oil on your frypan going to the side or water running off bench with spills. Ideally you need to take your time,” Ben explains.

Ben is thrilled with the way his kitchen and laundry have turned out and is keen to start entertaining in the new space.
“I certainly have something to show off. I wouldn’t say I get excited about doing the laundry or cooking a meal but it’s a lot nicer doing these activities when everything is new. Extra bench space in the kitchen is great. Having a European laundry which includes a pantry and bench is very useful for storage and folding. Previously it was just a room with a sink and washing machine. I’m proud of how it has turned out and the value it has put on the property. The house is a lot more open with more space to entertain.”
“I would definitely recommend kaboodle to my family and friends. The quality is a lot better than similar products on the market,” say Ben.
